Patina
Project Type
High-Rise Mixed Use
Location
Five Dock, NSW
This design competition entry creates a new landmark tower in the cultural hub of Five Dock.
The industrial roots of the context were directly incorporated in to the building's forms and materiality.
The motif of the 'saw-tooth roof' was applied in various ways through the site, such as a public domain awning in the horizontal plane, and vertically in the winged facade of the tower - which doubles as a functional passive solar design element.
A weathered copper materiality was applied to the base, in the aqua blue hue of the 'patina' that copper endures over time.
